The choir staff is very excited about the number of students that have elected to participate in the choir programs of Leander I.S.D. As we grow in number, we also hope to grow in quality. We are constantly striving to improve the choir program ourselves as professionals, as well as our student’s abilities. As the school year begins, we hope you should you share in this excitement with us.

Choir teaches so much more than “just singing.” Choir teaches diligence through preparation, practice and repetition of musical skills such as rhythms, melody and harmony. Choir teaches responsibility through solo and individual class preparation and work ethics through ensemble performances, group practice, and group assessment. Over the years of participation in choir, students will develop both critical thinking and listening skills as they prepare and perform music. These skills are brought out through performances and adjudicated contests as they pertain to music. While working in the music ensemble setting, students will develop powers of concentration and the ability to work with others in a group setting. Lastly and most importantly, students in the choir setting are assisted in the development of self-expression. Thus, a student’s participation in choir is more than “just singing.”

Keeping the above-mentioned ideas in mind, we would like to offer your child an opportunity to participate in the Private Lesson Music Program. Private lessons are of great benefit to students for musical growth. The music staff has assembled a staff of private instructors for the 2014-2014 school year. Private lessons offer your child a unique experience that he or she cannot ascertain in the classroom setting. If you choose to participate in the program, your student will meet with a private voice specialist once a week at a given time. Most of the instructors are professionals or they are working toward a college degree in music. These lessons will be geared to help your student by teaching them how to improve their musical skills. While we, as a choir staff, strive to work with each student regularly, we are limited because of class size and time. Hence, the choir staff cannot provide an opportunity such as one on one lessons.

We strongly encourage each of you to consider the Private Lesson Music Program. Registration forms can be downloaded below.
